ANADROMOUS NOW – Est. 2018

Anadromous Now is Corbie Fieldwalker’s ongoing film and social media initiative to capture and share salmon fly fishing culture and practices of fishing for Pacific anadromous salmonids, as well as to show the valuable stewardship work of those people who have made water and fish a focus of their lives. Anglers are at the vanguard of salmon conservation and habitat loss mitigation projects throughout B.C. Anglers are some of the most knowledgeable members of our coastal communities and are essential in helping to find solutions to the myriad of challenges presently facing anadromous fish. This project documents a diverse range of characters and the role fishing plays in their lives and communities. Restoring critical salmon and steelhead habitat is not only essential for humans, but also for imperilled Southern Resident Killer Whales and all other animals that rely on a healthy ecosystem to survive.

The Writing is On The Mountain | ANADROMOUS NOW Part 4

The warmest days of the last century punctuate the first chapter of the anthropocene, and foreshadow the unpredictable epoch that awaits. The lowest water in 50 years on the Harrison River demonstrates the adaptability of anadromous fish while revealing the fragility of their Lower Fraser ecosystems, and giving us a glimpse into the future. The Avid Angler DNA Sampling Program | ANADROMOUS NOW Part 2

Citizen science plays a crucial role in local Chinook salmon stock assessment. Thanks to Jason Assonitis and local guides like Bon Chovy Fishing Charters we have a better understanding angler impact and how to design future fisheries policy that leverages the power of science and local expertise to inform sustainable management. Angling has a long history in British Columbia and at times like these, our local anglers’ understanding of complex natural systems are key to planning for the future, and ensuring we have this vital resource for generations to come.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Art Lingren over the last two years and I’m grateful to him for allowing me into his life and a glimpse into his creative process. ANADROMOUS NOW 2020 PREVIEW

Anadromous- literally ‘ up- running or back- running” fish migrate back and forth from the marine environment to freshwater. The estuary- where land becomes liquid, where the river fades into the sea – is the point of balance, transformation, and evolution. As wild anadromous salmon return to their home rivers this Fall, think about what role you want them to play in the future and what you can do to help make that a reality.

Patterns in nature. That change on the horizon is approaching. The challenges now facing salmon and steelhead cannot be overstated, it is now or never for Anadromous fish across British Columbia. The juxtaposition of fly fishing for Salmon in urban environments underscores the changes we’ve forced on these lands, and the scope of the problem we face today.

THE ANGLING EXPERIENCE

The artistry of angling, the integration of direct experience, science, and art form is reflected in so many facets fly fishing, besides the angling itself. From fly tying and entomology, to bamboo rod design, to wooden net and boat building, to writing, painting, poetry, photography, films, music and pod-casts, to product design, material design and even guiding. Embodying the total angling experience and capturing the unique spirit of each place is the ultimate goal of all of our endeavours. The memories and emotions connected to fishing, family, the ocean, and the land are some of the most powerful and long lasting- and so they are the locus of our creative direction and stories. More than ever- conservation, catch and release, and engagement in environmental issues affecting us all are informing our projects and how we conduct them. #theanglingexperience
